τάγμαbattalionEtymology
Διμοιρία is a compound of δι- (two) and μοίρα (share, portion, division). In ancient Greek military usage it named a unit formed by splitting a larger body of troops into two parts. Modern Greek kept the word but narrowed it to a fixed rank in the army hierarchy: the platoon, smaller than a company and larger than a squad.
